Concrete as a symbol for art
Swiss Post is dedicating a stamp to “Art in architecture”: concrete as a symbol of art development, with a tactile surface and a connection to Switzerland’s commitment to art.

Beton als Symbolträger für die Kunst
In 2020, Swiss Post realigned its traditional commitment to art based on three pillars. After the issue of two previous stamps dedicated to art collection and art in the periphery, now comes the third in the series: art in architecture. The stamp design represents a concrete wall. It symbolizes both newer construction per se and buildings in general. The design also hints at the role concrete has played in the history of architecture. Concrete helped this type of art, previously seen by most people as “architectural decoration”, to become an art form in its own right. To give the stamp a tactile dimension, cement pigments have been added to the ultra-matt finish.
The stamp is sold out and can currently no longer be ordered.
