Douglas Mandry
Douglas Mandry (1989 in Geneva, lives and works in Zurich) works across different media in photography, print graphics, painting and sculpture. His practice is characterized by an experimental approach to materials and combines artistic work with intensive scientific research. Mandry regularly collaborates with researchers in archaeology, technology, history and science to explore the relationship between humans and nature, and to address questions of time, memory, ephemerality and preservation.
About the talk
The conversation will focus on the retreat of glaciers, the impact of climate change on landscapes and sustainability issues. The starting point is a joint expedition to the Rhône Glacier, in which Mandry combined artistic research and Farinotti glaciological measurements to capture the shapes of glacier mills and bring art and science into direct dialogue. It shows how artistic and scientific perspectives open up new approaches to environmental issues.
