Art meets craft: a talk on indigo, ideas and identity

As part of the Zurich Art Weekend, these creatives will participate in an exclusive artist talk on 13 June with Diana Pavlicek, head of Swiss Post’s commitment to art, about their collaboration, their inspiration, and the importance of promoting art in the current age.

This talk will provide fascinating insights into how this art edition came about, which not is not only visually impressive, but also has deep cultural roots. The blueprint used, a centuries-old printing technique using indigo, has been inscribed on UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list since 2018. Matteo Gehringer has preserved this technique with devotion and knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation. In collaboration with Mirko Baselgia, whose works often deal with environmental and social topics, an edition has been created that interprets current issues relating to sustainability, identity and tradition as a work of art.

Swiss Post has supported artists for many years now with targeted funding programmes, and actively campaigns for cultural diversity. This project is part of its commitment to sustainable art forms that build bridges between generations, disciplines and regions. By combining artistry with craftsmanship, not only do we get a collector’s item, but also a statement for preserving cultural practices and cultivating them in the modern age.
