Swiss Post’s commitment to art

A completely natural and ‘living’ stamp

For this special stamp, artist Monica Ursina Jäger chose “Meadow” as the theme. “The design perfectly illustrates the overlap between the natural habitat and cultural achievement,” says the artist. This means that meadows are also suitable for art projects.

Special stamp

As part of Swiss Post’s realigned commitment to art, partnerships with “Art in the periphery” events will take center stage in 2022.

However, for this special stamp, which symbolizes the periphery, the artist Monica Ursina Jäger has not chosen a specific location, but rather the theme of “meadow”. “This design symbolizes the intertwining of natural habitat and cultural achievement,” says the artist. Meadows were mostly created by the influence of people and only survived with their help. Art projects in the periphery are often created on meadows and continue the dialogue between natural processes and cultural achievements.

The print’s special feature is the colour used: it’s the first stamp ever printed with chlorophyll pigments – in other words the substance responsible for the green colour of plants. This means the stamp is completely natural and ‘living’. The green will change over time depending on the effect of light.

The stamp is sold out and can currently no longer be ordered.

Art print

A limited-edition art print on 200 copies of Rives handmade paper (300 g/m2) is available to match the theme. The art edition by the artist Monica Ursina Jäger is not just about nature, but also uses the living material chlorophyll to work with nature itself. In collaboration with the lithography company Thomi Wolfensberger in Zurich, the tradition of lithography was combined with an experimental approach to natural pigments. The same chlorophyll pigments were used for this art print as for the stamp. In fine layers, plant-based motifs and varying concentrations of green are compacted into an organic carpet. Real grasses and stalks were placed directly on the printing stone. Exposing the art print to sunlight will result in subtle colour changes over time. Nature, time, tradition and the present day come together in this work of art, symbolizing the periphery in an innovative way. Each of these works of art is signed and numbered by Monica Ursina Jäger.

The delivery is unframed. The selling price is 220 francs, including shipping costs within Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Deliveries abroad are not possible.
